Snakes & Ladders Collab

Karli of Jessups General Store​ has been hosting a collab project and this is my contribution. Karli made 25 prints with the top portion open for adding our part.

 This is the first time I've embroidered on paper and it was a lot of fun.  I put my image on the back of the paper and punched holes in the spots I was planning on stitching.  Making sure to pierce intersecting lines and not making the holes too close which might cause the paper to pucker.  After that it was like connecting the dots. 

The inspiration hit me when I was reading Judith Flanders' The Making of Home. I've read quite  a few of her books and I always love the descriptions of mundane life, the everyday objects that really show true human life.   Because I am also a fibre artist I decided to stitch the typical Home Sweet Home that you see in old homes and add a bit of the spooky with the crooked house and the dead tree.  I also wanted to turn the lights on in the house so I found a couple crayons and made the house a home.
